Twilight Sparkle: Reading is Magic by renegadecow Twilight Sparkle: Reading is Magic by renegadecow
Twilight Sparkle loves to read. And she's just so cute when she's at it! A passion for literature is something I share with this adorkable pony and so the idea for an automaton of her came to me rather easily. I can't say the same about Spike though, he seems hard at work lugging all those books! This is the second piece of my pony automaton series featuring characters from the show My Little Pony. Like the previous one, the characters and base (box) are hand-carved out of Philippine mahogany. The gears and books are made from Nara hardwood with the exception of the book page (that actually turns!) which is made from paper mache. All figures are painted in enamel and topped off with a flat lacquer clear coat. Lying down, Twi measures 3" high and 6" long. However the base is much bigger from before making total dimensions of 6 1/2" high, 9 1/4" long and 4 1/4" wide when Spike's stack of books pop out from the side. The entire piece took me 103.5 hours to make.

Call me sadistic......
but it would be cool to see the bandaged up, wheelchair bound Twilight.
(from the "Feeling Pinkie Keen" episode)
With the clockwork action being raising some binoculars to her eyes
while spying on PinkiePie's antics.

I thought it was funny.

She's sculpted out of wood. I have a picture of the piece unpainted in my gallery if you'd like to see it.

Utterly amazing!

Your work always blows me away, too bad for me it's out of reach for the average person to own one.

To come up with something as amazing as this you must have a beautiful mind! :)

Thanks! I don't know about my mind being beautiful though LOL! Also, I know that my current pieces aren't exactly cheap, but I am considering in making simpler (like 2-step motion maximum), smaller (about blindbag size), by-commission pieces in the future which would be more affordable.

I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for someone who is both skilled and dedicated enough to see a complex project like this through from start to finish. The end result was well worth it! Awesome job! :D

One of the most amazing pieces I have ever seen because it's both use of technique to animate as sculpting. It's just amazing! When you sold it, can you tell us the winning bid? I'm sure you'll at least get 1000,- for this.

I wish I had the money to buy it off of you, but alas I am broke. Kudos my friend on a job well done. This is one of the best custom Twilights I've ever seen.

A month of relaxation does sound tempting, but it would also mean delaying the next automaton by as much time. If only my hands could keep up with my ideas I'd be releasing these one a week.

Thank you! One of each for the mane six first then who knows what after. I might go over a character again in the future, but I have no intention to make an exact copy of what I've already covered.
